#Address by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine – University of Gharyan on the occasion of the start of the 2026–2027 academic year

03 Oct, 2026

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon the noblest of the prophets and messengers, our Master Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions.

Distinguished members of the academic staff, support staff, and all employees and workers at the Faculty, my dear students, may the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all.

It gives me great pleasure, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Gharyan, to welcome you all as we begin the new academic year 2026–2027. I pray to Allah, the Almighty, that He may make this a year full of generosity and achievement, and that He may guide us all towards what is best for our Faculty, our University and our nation.

The start of a new academic year is not merely a resumption of lectures and examinations; rather, it is a fresh beginning for work and hope, and an opportunity to strengthen our academic journey, raise the standard of medical education, and instil the values of discipline, diligence and responsibility.

My dear students,

Your choice to study medicine is a choice to embrace a great humanitarian and ethical responsibility, even before it is a choice of profession or academic qualification. A doctor is not measured solely by their knowledge and clinical skills, but also by their compassion and integrity, their respect for human dignity, and their commitment to professional ethics.

I urge you to make your years of study a genuine journey of building knowledge, developing skills and cultivating scientific and critical thinking, and to recognise that excellence in medicine is not achieved through exam success alone, but through continuous diligence, self-directed learning, discipline and teamwork.

I would also like to assure you that the Faculty management will continue to work, in collaboration with the academic staff, support staff and administrative staff, to provide a suitable learning environment, develop programmes and curricula, and improve academic and administrative performance, in line with the requirements of modern medical education and the standards of quality and academic accreditation.

Members of the academic staff, support staff and administrative staff,

Your role in this endeavour is pivotal and fundamental; it is through your efforts and dedication that generations are shaped and institutions are elevated. I hold in the highest regard the efforts you make in fulfilling your educational and administrative duties, and I look forward to further cooperation and working as a united team, placing the interests of the students and the Faculty above all else.

Our ambition at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Gharyan goes beyond simply graduating doctors with a university degree; we strive to prepare doctors who possess knowledge and skill, are imbued with human values, are capable of keeping pace with the rapid developments in medical science, and can contribute effectively to serving the community.

In conclusion, I would like to welcome you all once again, and I wish our dear students a successful academic year, filled with diligence, hard work and achievement.

We ask God to grant us success in serving our beloved homeland, Libya, and to ensure that all our efforts are dedicated to building a better future for our children and future generations.

Peace be upon you, and may God’s mercy and blessings be with you.
